Plates for Pediatrics Gala - Ali Wise

In January of 2016, Ali Wise attended the Plates for Pediatrics Gala, hosted at the Mandarin Oriental, which raised a record-breaking $1.2 million for the Komansky Center for Children’s Health at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell’s pediatric program.

The name of the event came from the first-ever gala, hosted in 2010, where artists were commissioned to design and paint dinner plates that were sold at an auction, all to raise funds for the hospital’s pediatric program. While the event in 2016 did not have any plate painting, there was still funding raised to help out the center’s medical efforts.

The 2016 gala featured auctioned items of which the proceeds went to the hospital, including a $25,000 Giraffe Isolette, $15,000 reclining chairs for Kangaroo Care, and several attendances (40 to be exact) to Wacky Wednesdays, an event that enables the hospital to fund entertainment sessions, each going for $1,000.

Ms. Coleman, the children’s advisory council chair, was also presented with the Light Up a Life Award.

Since the event raises money for the hospital’s pediatric services, the gala drew in many parents with young children, including Ali Wise, along with Dr. Gerald Loughlin and Barbara Loughlin, Carolina Herrera, Patricia Lansing, Arriana and Dixon Boardman, Nancy and George Walker, Jill and Harry Kargman, Marcie and Jordan Pantzer, Naomi Waletzky and Rowan Hajaj, Stephanie and Chase Coleman, and Will Kopelman and Drew Barrymore.

Guests received a Lolo first-aid kit for their children as a party favor. The kits included Band-Aids, a flashlight, and an Ace bandage.
