In 2008, Ali Wise of Dolce & Gabbana and Jason Pomeranc threw a star-studded celebration in honor of the Thompson Beverly Hills Hotel opening. 130 A-listers attended, including Ellen Pompeo, Giovanni Ribisi, Kyle MacLachlan, Matthew Perry, Lisa Eisner, China Chow, Brad Dunning, Ali Larter, Larry Clarks, Alexandra von Furstenberg, and David Arquette. 

Kate Hudson, who also attended, said of the event, “Only Ali and Jason could pull off a celebration like this so sensationally.” The duo had less than 48 hours to complete the planning and execution for the middle-of-the-week celebration. 

Ali and Jason decided to throw the event to celebrate the new Thompson Hotel, owned by the Pomeranc family and sister hotel to 60 Thompson, is located on Wilshire Boulevard right in the middle of California’s finest neighborhood, Beverly Hills. Rapper and actress Eve noted of the new hotel, “Now I can visit New York in L.A. It’s so sleek; it’s so chic.”

The interior embraces fashion, designed by Dodd Mitchell, with input from Steven Klein. Klein hand-selected several pieces of his own work to decorate both the rooms and hallways of the hotel. 

The event featured family-style dining, adding to the inviting flair the hotel already had. Cameron Silver said of the kickoff party, “it’s such an eclectic turnout.” The hotel contains the feeling that you are not in Beverly Hills but somewhere else entirely. The event effortlessly pulled off the hotel’s intention to bring elegance and fashion together into a hotel.
